Job Description
We are hiring for an immediate opening for a Precertification Clerk in Dothan, AL. In this role, you will be a vital part of the healthcare administrative team, providing essential support in obtaining insurance authorizations for medical procedures.
Pay will start between $12.00 - $13.00 per hour with a Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-12pm schedule. Full benefits package offered!

Responsibilities:
- Interacts with physicians, nurses, coders, and other Clinic staff to gather patient information needed for precertification, prior approval, or pre-determination process.
- Obtains precertification, prior approval, or pre-determination authorization for scheduled tests and surgical procedures by contacting patient’s insurance company, including workman’s compensation carriers, for eligibility, pre-existing, or exclusions; provides patient’s medical history, treatments received, current conditions, and planned testing or surgical treatment. Determines if prior approval is needed and notifies the appropriate department staff of outcome and the patient when necessary.
- Assists in answering patient questions when they present regarding insurance coverage for a procedure, and if authorization is required
- Maintaining, updating, and organizing files, records, and documents
Skills:
- Approximately one year work-related experience with medical terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance coverage issues
- Ability to comprehend written orders from physicians
- Proficient with MS Excel and other basic computer skills
- Ability to pay close attention to detail when reviewing patient medical record, insurance information, and entering data into the computer system
